Real World Science

We had a fantastic time hanging out with the kids and bringing real world Science to their classroom. We hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.

Thumb Prints

The thumb impression was taken with dental alginate. In the office, the material is used for molds of the teeth and it is as accurate to the width of a grain of salt!

Seaweed is a main ingredient found in alginate!

The powder is mixed with water to activate and make a putty like material that sets up with the temperature of the body.

Digital Scanner

A digital scan takes hundreds of pictures of teeth so we can print a model. We use these to make Invisalign and retainers:

Aligner

3D Printing

We can print the models of teeth AND anything else fun!

Radiographs

X-rays allow us to see development inside the bones of the teeth. We can see the way teeth are erupting and if there are missing teeth!

Orthodontic Appliances

There are many different types of appliances used in orthodontics to help direct jaw growth, tooth eruption and make smiles!

Hygiene

We talked about brushing and flossing to help keep your teeth strong. Seeing the dentist regularly helps address cavities and gum problems.
